Megadeth in Buenos Aires: welcome to the metal party

By Tatiana Cusato

There are those who say that we Argentinians are boastful and inflated, but if at any time someone tries to dispute the title of Best Audience in the World, we win it by a landslide by showing a video of any recital of Megadeth in Buenos Aires.

There is no need to explain that the famous “Megadeth Aguante Megadeth”, internationally known, was born here, and that cocarda is worthy of wearing with your chest inflated with pride.

On this occasion the heavy metal band led by the legendary Dave Mustaine He passed through our country as part of the “Crash The World Tour”, with not only one, but three completely sold out dates at the stadium. Movistar Arena.

The certainty of the party that would come was so great that the band itself decided to broadcast the shows live – although paid – on a streaming platform for the whole world. Even those who could not attend the first dates learned about different gems thanks to social networks, such as the acoustic jam that the boys did hours before the last concert at the door of the hotel where they were staying.

But let’s get to the point. The third day of what could easily be called a metal convention achieved its goal: blowing up wigs and leaving everyone wanting more. An hour and a half of pure metal, guitars, speed, skill and lots and lots of pogo. The list of songs began with “The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!”, the song that opens their latest album of the same name. Followed by “Skin o’ My Teeth” and “Angry Again”, two classics that served to break the ice, as if that were necessary.

Only there was heard Mustaine roar a “Thank you” which, later in the show, transformed into a very acceptable Spanish “Muchas Gracias guys”.

In addition to the lighting that never fails in a show of this level, the staging was very simple: a backdrop with the album cover and the musicians on stage. Nothing more was needed, all with pure skill and an overwhelming sound. Megadeth fully on stage like a locomotive at full steam and without brakes that goes in front of the audience, and the audience is ready to put their body in a pogo and incessant circles of death.

The set list consisted of “Wake Up Dead”, “In My Darkest Hour”, “Countdown to Extinction”, “Sweating Bullets”, “Poison Was the Cure”, “Hangar 18”.

The maximum peaks of emotion? “Trust”, “A tout le monde” and especially after the first interval, when Dave Mustaine He returned to the stage proudly showing his brand new special guitar with the colors of the Argentine flag to perform the eternal “Symphony of Destruction” and all the folklore that this height entails.

Ready, the only thing missing from the setlist was “Mechanix”, “Peace Sells” and the devastating “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due”, belonging to Rust In Peace.

After so many years and so many visits to Argentina, it is more than clear that this love is true and is sealed with pure fire and metal.
