Now yes: there is nothing left for Olivia Rodrigo to launch her highly anticipated new album. GUTS, the second studio album by the American singer, comes out next Friday, September 8. And what does that mean? Well, the singer is in full promo for the United States. Olivia, who has already begun her tour of the main publishers of the American country, has granted a most comprehensive interview for the Interview magazine.

The artist Phoebe Bridgers has been in charge of sitting down with Olivia to talk about her new album. The two artists have shared a most varied conversation, chatting about fame, music and the phenomenon Twilight. And it is that when the first film came out, Olivia was only a 4-year-old girl. Despite this, she is a true fan of the saga starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. That’s why she wanted to pay her little tribute to her in some elements of the Vampire video clip!

“The first movie is a masterpiece. I’ve been obsessed with it since I was very little. My mother found some vampire drawings I did when I was only four years old. I was like, ‘I’ve already been obsessed with them since I was very little.'” . In fact, the singer confesses that she even asked her mother to buy her a sweatshirt like the one Bella wears in the first film in the saga.

About the hints in his songs

Bridgers wanted to know if Olivia sends the songs before publishing them to those people who have inspired her (for better or worse) to write them. The young woman, who rose to fame for Drivers Lincense, a song dedicated to his ex-partner Joshua Basset, has answered the following: “That’s a great question. I feel like last time there was so much weird media bullshit and I had no idea how to deal with any of it. It was literally the first song I was dating and all that shit happened. I felt so unprepared. It was an overwhelming experience, but now I definitely feel a responsibility. I try not to think about it during the writing process.”

Olivia goes on to explain that with GUTS, her new album, she has had to stop thinking about what they will say to release all her feelings: “When I started writing this record, I would sit at the piano and pretend that other people were listening to what I was writing, which is horrible and counterproductive to creativity, so I had to write what I wanted and think about the social implications afterwards. It’s complicated. I don’t think anyone is clear on that. I can’t even believe that people listen and talk about my music for what it is, so it’s crazy to think about it. I guess I’m still learning to deal with all of that.”

In fact, when she wrote the song Fame Fucker, Olivia had doubts with one of her favorite phrases: “fame fucker”. “I played it for some people, and they said, ‘That’s really irrelevant. You can’t write songs about it.’ I think you have to be careful when you write songs about fame. A lot of times people don’t want to hear about it. But fame is more accessible than ever. Everyone craves some kind of internet virality, and there is so much social climbing and lust for fame in the world that has nothing to do with living in Los Angeles or New York. It’s something that prevails in our generation,” says the singer.

On his favorite GUTS song

One of his favorite songs GUTS is All American Bitch. A subject whose title seemed very funny and that was born thanks to the book The White Album by Joan Didion. A book that came out in 1979 and that collects several essays by the writer focused on politics, society and American culture.

“She has so many fucking great quotes. I was reading how Joan Didion was going to San Francisco to meet all these hippies who had been on acid for five years and went to Grateful Dead concerts. She was talking to a hippie who had run away from home and had called his mom an ‘American bitch.’ And I was like, ‘That’s the coolest fucking line I’ve ever heard,’ so I had to write a song about it.”

Without a doubt, right now we can’t wait to hear GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo. And it seems that the singer is willing to give a lot to talk about with this new album.
