Bohemia: at 116 years, the value of memory

From this Friday Bohemia She feels happy, perhaps because she is a centenarian and is about to turn 16 on May 10. And this magazine of letters, images and dreams has witnessed the history of the people through art and the defense of the most genuine values of the Cuban nation.

Today it captivates glances from the Espacio Abierto gallery of the magazine Revolución y Cultura, where an exhibition was inaugurated that includes more than thirty photographs and 20 covers of the pillar publication in the dissemination of the memory and cultural wealth of the country.

The expo, collected under the name Bohemia: Culture Promotertakes us on a journey through time and shows the constant commitment after the triumph of the Revolution by covering cultural milestones, prominent figures, events, festivals, meetings between personalities and other activities.

Through the images on display, we can appreciate the fundamental role it has had in the promotion of music, literature, cinema, dance and the plastic arts, since its pages have reflected not only the evolution of culture, but They have also contributed to enriching it and preserving it for future generations.

With curatorship and museography by Abenamar Bauta and assembly by Joel Valdivia, it constitutes a tribute to a publication that has been vital and has adapted to the changes and challenges of each era.

This exhibition, a unique opportunity to reflect on his impact on society and to celebrate his legacy and passion for “encompassing resonances of everyday life, literary, artistic and heritage traditions”, is “a journey that involves the participation of spectators eager to remember and think of ourselves through visuality as a solid bridge of relations between Cubans,” as the multi-award-winning journalist Sahily Tabares stated in the exhibition catalog.

I like to think that these photographs speak of a country in transformation, of a world that changes. Here you can take the pulse and soul of an island from the lights and shadows of those snapshots that reveal the magic between the folds of our daily lives.

With curatorship and museography by Abenamar Bauta and assembly by Joel Valdivia, it constitutes a tribute to the centenary publication.

Looking at the selected covers, we appreciate that Bohemia It documents and perpetuates the present for the future. In these walls of Open Space we find a piece of time that still makes us amazed at how great his journey is since 1908, and how today he contemplates his creative path with new eyes.
