The Hermanos Avilés Orchestra, accredited as the oldest active popular music group in Cuba, Latin America and possibly in the world, received the 60th Anniversary seal from the EGREM, as a musical addition to the substantial program of the May Pilgrimage.

Founded in Holguín on October 16, 1882, Avilés has reaped a great legacy of cultural tradition over the last three centuries, a trajectory that earned it the distinction also granted for its loyalty to this record company that defends Cuban music.

Carlos Lam Mora, director of the EGREM in Holguín, highlighted the importance of having the Avilés Brothers and the responsibility that comes with making music with the wealth and heritage that this band maintains, pride of the Cuban city of parks.

At the time of recognition, Gastón Allen, renowned trumpeter, arranger, composer and director of the band, meant that in these 142 years of dedication they have done nothing other than try to ensure that each Holguín native takes a little piece of his music in their hearts.

The medal for the six decades of the EGREM was also awarded to the troubadour Fernando Cabreja, identified as a chief of the trova in Holguín for being the protagonist of lyrics as passionate as they were rebellious and who saw his album “When everything coincides” come to light. thanks to the production of the Siboney studios, in Santiago de Cuba.

The Santa Palabra room, in the EGREM House of Music, was converted for the first time during the May Pilgrimage, into a kind of bohemian bar in order to distinguish these artists and create a space in which music shines in all its splendor.

Lam Mora told the Cuban News Agency exclusively that the production company sought the possibility of offering services with more affordable prices and worked to benefit certain audiences by creating days, for example, dedicated to members of the Union of Writers and Artists. in this territory.

A kind of download, in which themes from traditional Cuban music and other more contemporary ones were perfectly fused, offered by the Hermanos Avilés Orchestra after receiving its recognition, a stage in which figures such as the journalist and critic specialized in music Joaquín Borges Triana were present. , and the Cuban singer-songwriter Augusto Enriquez.

The May Romerías, in the year of its 30th anniversary, is established as the festival of traditions and modernity that brings together the most valuable of the young Cuban artistic avant-garde, turning Holguín, from May 2 to 8, into the Capital of Art Young.
