XV International Symposium on Plant Biotechnology began at UCLV

The Symposium and its Trade Fair began with a cultural gala, which also includes keynote conferences, meetings and presentations that will run until next Friday, May 10.

Among the most important presentations this Wednesday stands out “Perspectives and challenges in scientific development: A view from the Cuban Academy of Sciences”, given by the president of this governing institution of Cuban science, Dr. C. Luis Velázquez Pérez.

Inside of the Biotechnologies workshop in sustainable potato productionwhich is part of this scientific event, several academics and researchers will discuss the impact of plant biotechnology on the production of seeds of this tuber and the use of agroecological practices in the sustainable production of potatoes in Cuba, just to mention a few.

Present at the inauguration were Dr.Cs. Luis Velázquez Pérez president of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Dr.Cs.Luis Antonio Barranco Olivera, Rector of the UCLV, Dr.Cs. Jacqueline Aparecida Takahashi, vice-rector of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Dr.Cs. Gilberto Quevedo Sotolongo, President of the Science and Technology Interface Society of UCLV and Dr.Cs. Derrick Deslandes, president of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education of Jamaica, among other authorities.
