The call was expected to bring together between 50,000 and 100,000 people, so its massive attendance has been a success for the organizations that have joined, such as the General Confederation of Workers (CGT), the SOS Racism group, the League of Rights Humans and various student organizations.
The protesters protest against the “unprecedented result” achieved by the far-right National Groupthe most voted force in the European elections on June 9, which is why they fear that the extreme right will “gain power” in the next elections.
For this reason, the conveners asked citizens to “become aware of this historical moment in which we find ourselves: this moment in which our country runs the risk for the first time since the Second World War of falling on the side of the extreme right.”
