CARACAS, June 18 (Xinhua) — The president of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, on Tuesday described the dispossession of the Venezuelan Citgo refinery by the United States as a “vulgar robbery.”

“It is a vulgar theft by those who call themselves defenders of the market economy, defenders of free trade. They simply mounted a hoax upon another hoax to take over the main asset of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela abroad, the Citgo refinery system “, held.

The deputy of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and president of the National Assembly expressed that the subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) “was a highly desired loot” by those in power in the North American nation.

He rejected the sale of Citgo, in which the Government of Venezuela did not participate, and blamed leaders of the Venezuelan opposition who handed over the company and who are currently fugitives from justice.

Rodríguez explained that a court in the state of Delaware, United States, held “a secret auction” in order to determine the delivery to Washington and businessmen.

The assets of the Venezuelan refinery in the United States “amount to 21 billion dollars,” recalled the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, in addition to mentioning that the resources generated by the oil company were invested for the health care of girls and boys.

He criticized those who handed over the Venezuelan company and said that they are “the same ones” who are now coming out to ask for the vote.

The Government of Venezuela itself repudiated on Monday the measure against the PDVSA subsidiary by US authorities and assured that “the exercise of actions is reserved against any company or individual that acquires the shares, facilitates the purchase or negotiates with the assets of Citgo”.
