Given the possibility that Bayern Leverkusen and PSV will achieve the feat of being crowned undefeated, we review which other teams have won titles without suffering setbacks

This weekend the activity of the best European soccer leagues returns. Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) and PSV (Netherlands) aspire to win their respective leagues and join the clubs that have become champions without losing a single match.

Looking ahead to the latter part of the 2023/24 campaign, we look back at the undefeated champions of the major leagues in Europe.

Preston North End

In 1989, Preston North made history by winning the First Division title with a record of 18 wins and 4 draws. Below Preston was Aston Villa, who finished 11 points less than the Lancashire county team. It should be noted that that same year, Preston also won the cup competition.

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners in 2004 are one of the teams most remembered by European football lovers. Arsenal won the Premier League title with a record of 26 wins and 12 draws. In that London squad there were elements like Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry. The Arsenal of 2004 went down in history with the nickname “The Invincibles”.

Athletic Club

The Bilbao team achieved the feat of winning the league title in 1930 with Frederick Pentland on the bench. One of the great stars of that squad was Guillermo Gorostiza, who was key in that campaign after scoring 20 goals that were fundamental for Athletic, which finished the season with a record of 12 wins and 6 draws.

real Madrid

The Merengues are one of the most important teams in the world and in 1921 they won the First Division of Spain without losing a single game. Throughout the season, Real Madrid was superior to the rest of the teams and from that Los Blancos squad, Ricardo Zamora stood out, who is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the ‘White House’.

Italian Serie A

AC Milan

Under the orders of the successful Italian tactician, Fabio Capello, AC Milan managed to win the Serie A title in 1992 without losing a single game in the Italian championship. It is interesting to remember that the championship in 1992 was the first of three First Division titles that AC Milan would win consecutively.

Juventus

The ‘Vecchia Signora’ has had brilliant campaigns throughout its history, but one of the most special was experienced in 2012 when it finished the season without suffering a single setback and lifting the ‘Scudetto’. On the Juventus bench was Antonio Conte, who finished with a record of 23 wins and 13 draws in the Italian championship.

Dutch Eredivisie

Ajax

Louis van Gaal’s Ajax was made up of great stars such as Frank de Boer, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Marc Overmars, among other notable figures and in the 1994/95 season, the Amsterdam squad managed to become Dutch football champions without losing a single match. Ajax finished the campaign with a record of 27 wins and 7 draws as well as 106 goals scored and only 28 goals conceded. Ajax added a total of 88 points in 34 games.

Portugal League

Benfica

In 1973, the Red Eagles finished at the top of the standings thanks to a campaign without knowing the bitter taste of defeat. Benfica finished with a record of 28 wins and only two draws. Five years later, Benfica again finished the season undefeated, but failed to win the title.

Porto

The Dragons conquered the Portuguese First Division in 2011 and did so without suffering a single defeat. Porto finished the campaign with 27 wins and three draws. It should be noted that that same year, Porto won the Europa League.
