Carlos Sainz’s career was very active from the start of the Miami GP, when after placing second he had to lift his foot in the face of a very risky and failed attack by Sergio Pérez. He was fourth during the first part of the grand prix, but the Safety Car that came out after the accident of Logan Sargeant and Kevin Magnussen altered everything.

On the restart, when the safety car went out, Sainz went after Oscar Piastri, who was fourth, and a battle began that lasted almost five laps. Sainz attacked the McLaren on lap 34, and passed him during that turn, although they touched and Carlos had to jump the chicane, falling behind again.

After that first incident, Sainz protested on the radio, claiming that his rival had thrown him out, and he continued like this for several minutes, even telling the team to notify McLaren F1 that they should return his position. The stewards, however, after writing it down, decided that no investigation was needed, and Ferrari told Sainz to stay focused.

That’s how it was, and at the end of lap 39 Sainz passed him again, but they touched again. Piastri seemed to give it back, but went wide in Turn 1. In fact, the Australian would end up falling to the last place with problems in the car, and Sainz also pointed out damage to the car.

After several laps, Ferrari revealed to its driver that everything was fine, and the #55 remained there, in fourth position while the stewards announced that they would investigate what happened, but that they would do so after finishing the race at the Autódromo Internacional de Miami.

Beyond the deserved and continuous sanctions to Magnussen’s Haas, the weekend had left examples of worse cases that the FIA had not sanctioned, such as the multiple crash caused by Lewis Hamilton in the sprint race and which came to nothing, igniting the encouragement of Fernando Alonso who did not hesitate to point out that nationality matters when it comes to being punished.
