CLEVELAND — Cuban Andy Ibáñez homered in his first two at-bats and totaled four RBIs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Guardians 11-7 on Tuesday.
Ryan Vilade had his first hit in the majors and drove in three runs in his debut with Detroit.
Ibáñez hit a home run on Logan Allen’s third pitch of the game and added a two-run homer in the second inning.
In the eighth he hit a double and finished 4 for 4 with a walk and four runs scored.
Vilade, called up on the day from the Triple A branch in Toledo, drove in two runs with a single in the third inning against Venezuelan Pedro Ávila (1-1).
He had another single in the seventh inning to put the Tigers up 9-7.
His first plate appearance in the majors occurred 963 days before he finally had a hit.
Matt Vierling hit a two-run single in the eighth inning to give Detroit a four-run lead.
The victory went to reliever Tyler Holton (3-0).
For the Tigers, Cuban Ibáñez is 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Dominican Wenceel Pérez 2-for-5 with one run scored. Puerto Rican Javier Báez was 1 for 5 with one run scored and one RBI.
For the Guardians, the Dominicans Estevan Florial 5-1 with one run scored and one RBI, José Ramírez 4-3 with one run scored and two RBIs. Venezuelans Andrés Giménez 3-0 with one scored, Brayan Rocchio 2-1 with one scored.
