KANSAS CITY — Bobby Witt Jr. contributed two home runs to the cause of the Kansas City Royals, who beat the Detroit Tigers 10-3 on Tuesday and recorded their fifth consecutive victory.
Venezuelan Maikel García opened the first inning with a triple and scored on Witt’s infield single. Witt stole second base and scored when Venezuelan Salvador Pérez hit a hit to the right field.
After Kyle Isbel and Garcia had singles in the second inning, Witt found a Casey Miller splitter and sent the ball 468 feet from the plate – the longest home run of his career.
The ball landed in the fountains on the upper floor.
Mize (1-3) allowed six runs and nine hits in 1 2/3 innings, the shortest start of his life. He struck out a couple.
The victory went to Alec Marsh (4-1) who allowed three runs and five hits, in a six-inning effort, which included a pair of walks and five strikeouts.
For the Tigers, Dominican Wenceel Pérez went 1 for 4 with one run scored. Cuban Andy Ibáñez 2-0.
For the Royals, the Venezuelans García 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI, Pérez 2-for-5 with an RBI. Puerto Rican MJ Meléndez 4-0.
