SEATTLE — Andrew Vaughn homered and drove in the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning as the Chicago White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 on Thursday night.

Garrett Crochet struck out a career-high 13 over seven dominant innings.

Chicago avoided a sweep in the four-game series, but needed the extra innings after Dominican Julio Rodríguez, Seattle star, tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run against the closer Michael Kopech (2-6).

Rodríguez found a pitch with a 3-1 count and the ball disappeared between right and center field, reaching six home runs this season.

Mexican Andrés Muñoz (2-3) pitched the tenth inning for Seattle, in what was only his second start since June 4, when he suffered a series of back ailments.

Muñoz allowed a single by Nicky López, with one out, to advance automatic runner Korey Lee from second to third. Lee scored on the groundout that Vaughn was retired with.

Tanner Banks pitched the ninth inning perfectly for his second save.

For the White Sox, Cubans Luis Robert Jr. 4-1 with one run scored and one RBI, Óscar Colás 4-3.

For the Mariners, the Dominican Rodríguez was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Dominican Víctor Robles 3-1. Mexican Seby Zavala 1-0.
