The Copa América 2024 promises to be the largest edition of the championship ever seen, which is why expectations have also been generated for the opening ceremony. In previous editions, impressive presentations have been made with relevant artists, as was the case of Karol G, who graced the run-up to the first match of the tournament in 2019. On this occasion, the reggaeton singer Feid—who will represent his country, Colombia—will be the one in charge of starting the party, bringing the Latin spirit to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the venue that will receive the first teams that will face each other in this competition.
Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the home of the Falcons of the NFL and Atlanta United of the MLS, a league that has been responsible for popularizing soccer in the United States. The space has a capacity of up to 75,000 people, and has already been the center for other major events such as Super Bowl LIII, and will also be one of the stadiums used for the World Cup in 2026.
The event will begin with the opening ceremony, which is expected to be a great show, and will continue with the match between Argentina, captained by Messi and current champion, and Canada, thus kicking off the tournament that will take place in 14 cities in the United States. Feid, the Colombian reggaeton artist, will be in charge of the inaugural musical performance, surprising many who were expecting Shakira, who performs one of the tournament’s songs, Aim. The artist, also known as Ferxxo, announced his participation on social networks, which was shared by the event’s official account.
With an ascending career in the last five years, the Latin Grammy Awards nominee has collaborated with artists such as J Balvin, Bad Bunny and his partner Karol G (who was one of the artists who inaugurated the previous edition of the Copa América in 2019 ). Recently, he managed to sell out Madison Square Garden in New York, as part of his tour, Ferxxocalipsis World Tour, with which he has toured several cities in the United States and Canada.
Where to see the ceremony?
The opening ceremony and match will be broadcast around the world, with several options on both television and streaming platforms. In the United States, the event can be seen in English on FOX, FS1 and FS2, and in Spanish on Univisión, Unimás, TUDN and their streaming options. Likewise, it can also be seen through Fubo and Direct TV streaming. These services have trial periods of one month, so users could request it and thus enjoy the Copa América 2024.
