PHOENIX (AP) — Ketel Marte hit a two-run homer in the first inning and drove in the go-ahead run with an infield hit in the seventh, as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 on Tuesday. Minnesota Twins.
Marte, who leads the NL in voting as an All-Star second baseman, reached his 16th homer of the season when he grounded out off Joe Ryan. He then took advantage of a slow grounder to second base and reached with two outs to break a 4-4 tie.
The Diamondbacks led 4-0 after two innings, but the Twins responded against Brandon Pfaadt. Byron Buxton, who narrowly missed Eugenio Suárez’s hit that turned into an RBI triple in the second inning, opened the fifth with a home run to left-center field.
Kevin Ginkel (6-1) took the victory, retiring two batters in the seventh inning. Paul Sewald came to the tenth rescue of him.
The defeat was for the Dominican Jorge Alcalá (1-3).
For the Twins, Puerto Ricans Willi Castro 4-1, Carlos Correa 4-0. Dominican Carlos Santana 0-3 with one run scored.
For the Diamondbacks, Dominicans Marte 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs, Geraldo Perdomo 0-for-2 with one run scored. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 4-0. Venezuelan Suárez 3-1 with one scored and one RBI.
