The Spanish Olympic Committee appointed the sailor Tamara Echegoyen and the canoeist Marcus Cooper as standard bearers of the Spanish delegation in the Opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Echegoyen was Olympic 6m Elliot champion in London 2012 and finished fourth in the 49er FX in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. In this last event she competed for the first time with Paula Barceló, who will also be his partner in Paris 2024.

For his part, Marcus Cooper is a double Olympic medalist in sprint canoeing, one of the disciplines that has brought the most joy to Spanish sport in recent editions of the Olympic Games.

The Mallorcan paddler was the K1 1000 m Olympic champion in Rio 2016, and a silver medalist in Tokyo 2020 as part of the K4 500 m along with Saul Craviotto, Carlos Arevalo and Rodrigo Germade.

Cooper will succeed as standard bearer precisely his partner Craviotto, who three years ago shared that role with Mireia Belmonte. An honor that she still had a hard time imagining before it became official.

“It’s hard for me to imagine celebrating such pride, such honor. Carrying the most beautiful flag in the world, the best country, the country that I have represented since I started in the sport… Ugh! Oysters! I think I have to live it” , he confessed to Olympics.com during the presentation of the equipment of the Spanish delegation.

An experience that you can live on July 26, the date of the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
