The main goal of everything cybercriminal is to find out and keep the victim’s data, whether personal or banking. Many times they obtain this information through scams and, once they have it, they impersonate the person to access their bank account and steal everything deposited.

With how common these types of practices have become, banking websites and applications are highly controlled by security measures. From the moment you access your account, all activity is protected, whether by pins, authentication methods, biometric and more.

For all this, cybercriminals are trying to become increasingly sophisticated and manage to access information faster and faster. One of the latest methods that have been discovered is that of a malware which gains control of the victim’s phone. This was discovered by the security company ThreatFabric and pointed out that this modality had never been seen before.

They explained that the way it is introduced into mobile phones is by posing as an update of Google Chrome. This is one of the most used browsers, so the threat is downloaded massively. ThreatFabric also mentioned that it was difficult to differentiate, as the fake update has a very similar design to the interface of the real Google Chrome. However, there are certain details that reveal that it is something false. For example, you can see several spelling mistakes.

Once the virus is installed on the mobile, it creates a screen that overlays any app you open. This way they capture all the information you see and enter while using your mobile.

ThreatFabric added that this type of virus will become more and more common, so you have to be very careful, as it poses a very great danger. They recommend having a antivirus installed just like Google Play Protect which scans all applications before they are installed.
