Google’s AI makes blunders: it suggests adding glue to pizza or using a sex toy at the gym

A new error Google is causing people to talk, not only because the misinformation it providesbut also because what it represents in the focus on artificial intelligence that companies have implemented.

Broadly speaking, and as reported by Business Insider, a user of the social network

Well, through its new function of AI Overviews (AI Summaries), Google simply suggests: “add some glue. Mix about 1/8 cup of Elmer’s glue into the sauce. Non-toxic glue will work.”

As they would say in Condorito, I demand an explanation.

The incorrect answer is based on a sarcastic comment made by a Reddit user more than a decade ago, reflecting the danger of collecting information in an automated way without human supervision. And recently Reddit reported that

Although other artificial intelligences do not present this problem, including the new Google Gemini, multiple users have begun to present examples of the problems of the AI added to the popular search engine. For example, one answer indicated that Batman is a police officer, simply because he works with Commissioner Gordon, while another suggested that a dog played in the NBA. One answer even gave drinking urine as a solution to deal with kidney stones.

However, the most striking case involves the suggestion of use a sex toy – something similar to an anal plug – while exercising with weights in the gym. And obviously that suggestion comes from another Reddit troll.

Although the function of its AI Summaries is still in an experimental phase, the questions have been reinforced by the way in which Google seeks to avoid external clicks on its search engine to keep users only on its platform.

Furthermore, none of this looks good considering how Google has been pushing AI in search since last year and at the recent I/O event it only reinforced that project.
