Apple has given a minimum figure, but nothing prevents this data from changing
Until now, the years of iPhone updates could only be deduced from their history. Apple has been pretty consistent across the generations, being one of the companies in the lead when it comes to years of support. Only Samsung and Google, to date, have wanted to stand up to this update policy.
Google offers seven years of updates on its Google Pixel, Samsung too, a record that only Apple had managed to achieve to date. The data now is quite curious: Apple promises fewer years of updatesalthough there is enough newspaper archive to be positive.
Five years of updates. This is what Apple promises, at least, for its iPhone 15 family. How do we know this information? The regulations of countries such as the United Kingdom when making compliance declarations on connected devices require this information to be offered. Thus, Apple signs documentation in which it states that its minimum is five years.
On paper the numbers are clear: Samsung and Google promise seven years and Apple five, but the account is not so simple. What Google and Samsung promise is the complete cycle of system updates. That is, unless there is a change in policy, they will update those seven years.
What Apple has guaranteed is a minimum, so nothing prevents them from going beyond this figure. In fact, there have been models like the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus that have been updated for seven years.
It’s something that hasn’t happened in a long time: The latest iPhone generations are being updated on six-year cycles. If this continues, both Google and Samsung will take the lead, becoming new references in terms of support.
