Qualcomm’s so-called AI Hub brings together OpenAI, Stability AI or Meta models and makes them available to developers

Those responsible for Qualcomm are betting heavily on this theoretical revolution in artificial intelligence. After the presentation of the Snapdragon X Elite months ago and its release last week, the manufacturer now offers an interesting way to get more out of them.

AI models to squeeze out their new chips. The manufacturer’s new SoCs stand out precisely for having a Hexagon NPU (Neural Processing Unit) capable of reaching 45 TOPS of performance. The Windows 11 AI features that will gradually be offered will take advantage of that power, but now Qualcomm has presented a repository of AI models so that developers can also take advantage of those features.

Squeezing out the Snapdragon. In the official announcement Qualcomm indicated how these models will be available to anyone who registers as a developer in its “AI Hub”, its meeting point for that development community. By doing so, users will be able to access the downloads and installation of these AI models that are especially intended to take advantage of devices based on the Snapdragon X Elite.

A very varied catalog. At the time of writing this news, Qualcomm’s AI Hub has nearly 100 AI models optimized so that applications based on them can run locally on devices with the Snapdragon X Elite. Among these models are those dedicated to image classification, object detection, semantic segmentation or, of course, generative AI models such as Llama v2 (7B) or Stable Diffusion v2.1.

Simple commissioning. This “model store” facilitates access to OpenAI (Whisper), Stability AI (Stable Diffusion) or Meta (Llama 2) models, in addition to providing documentation for deploying those models in applications of all types. Examples and code are also provided on the website to make it easier for developers.

AI developers, unite. Qualcomm’s proposal is an interesting way to attract the talent of developers, who have a good starting point here to work on applications that take advantage of these models. The goal here is that over time more and more AI applications will appear that take advantage of its Snapdragon X Elite chips… and those that succeed said chips.

A good way to experiment. In the description of each of the available models there are links that point both to the GitHub repositories of these projects and to the studies from which they are derived and even to their availability on cloud platforms such as Hugging Face in case we first want to evaluate their behavior without installing them locally. Thus, we have enough options to start taking advantage of the features of the new Snapdragon X Elite precisely where Microsoft and Qualcomm hope they will stand out: in the field of AI.
