Atari and Limited Run Games have announced Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, nintendo switch and PCwith a launch scheduled for 2025. This collection plans to revive the first adventures of the iconic wildcat of the ’90s, created by Michael Berlynand seeks to explore its “complicated history” through historical documents and interviews.
The project, led by Audi Sorlie of Limited Run Gameshas been developed in collaboration with Atari to offer a definitive retrospective celebration of bubsy, the famous lynx of the 16-bit era. The collection will take advantage of the Carbon Engine of Limited Run Games to receive quality of life improvements in the included games.
The Carbon Engine is a development tool that allows you to make versions of old games on modern platforms. It uses emulation as a foundation, upon which additional features are built such as the game’s user interface, different renderings, more faithful audio, data management for situations such as trophies and achievements, and the translation of inputs from modern controls to emulation. This allows Limited Run Games releasing highly accurate ports of classic games for modern hardware, breathing new life into old and beloved releases.
Although the exact selection of titles has not been specified, the official trailer and screenshots suggest that different versions of the game will be playable. Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (1993), bubsy 2 (1994), Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales (1994) and Bubsy 3D (nineteen ninety six). This collection will not only allow fans to enjoy these classics, but also explore the turbulent legacy of bubsy through interviews and historical documents.
