Golf Ball Drop to take over Shell Road Reserve

EXCITEMENT is increasing at Shell Road Reserve ahead of Saturday’s third annual Ocean Grove Football and Netball Club Golf Ball Drop.

Club secretary Simon Jarvis said this year’s drop will boast approximately $15,000 worth of prizes, similar to last year’s event, and will again raise crucial funds for the Grubbers.

“There’s certainly a lot of energy that goes into producing this event each year, but with that there’s a lot of excitement as well,” Mr Jarvis said.

“Ticket sales are picking up at the moment and I’ve been going around the grounds over the past two and a half games and people always know that it’s coming up.

“It’s a good day, residents are always keen to participate even if they’re not directly linked to the club.

“Our Easter Weekend game is arguably our biggest day of the season with out-of-town visitors, but I’d say the golf ball drop day is not far behind.”

The ball drop will begin at 1.45pm sharp on Saturday, taking place between the reserves and seniors football games against Modewarre.

Golf balls purchased ahead of the 1pm deadline will be dropped from a helicopter with the four closest golf balls to the pin to win the four prizes up for grabs.

The first prize will be $10,000 in vouchers awarded as store specific cards, second prize will amount to $2,500 in vouchers, third prize will amount to $1,000 (including a $200 Driftwood Café voucher), and fourth will be gifted a 30-minute scenic flight for two people thanks to Geelong Helicopters.

The club will also be filled with junior footballers on Saturday as part of the annual Cobras Day celebrations, recognizing the efforts of those involved with Ocean Grove’s junior football program.

The club will also be hosting its Golden Grubbers Luncheon, made up of Ocean Grove’s membership group.

“We have over 500 tickets sold for this year’s event already, but based on the previous two years, we anticipate a late rush in sales on Friday and Saturday,” Mr Jarvis said.

“Last year we had 1,103 tickets sold for the Golf Ball Drop, so we’re hoping we can match or beat that total in 2024.”
