How did Airbnb owner help flood-affected families?

On Wednesday, April 25, NTV reported that more than 12 people died in Nairobi and Kajiado counties due to heavy rainfall.

Images shared online showed the Kenya Red Cross and police rescuing people marooned by floods.

Airbnb Nairobi offered to host five families to alleviate the conditions of affected families.

“If you know of any family affected by floods, please reach out. I will host five families in the Lavington, Kilimani, and Westlands areas,” the message read on Wednesday, April 24.

They also provide contact information.

In a follow-up message, Airbnb said that all the spaces had been filled

and thanks for all the support. Unfortunately, we could not fulfill all the requests. Stay blessed and help a fellow human.”

The kind host also called on Kenyans to assist flooding victims.

“We call upon other Airbnb hosts who can host a family for a day or two to reach out,” the message read.

What did government say about floods?

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua defended Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja over flooding in the country’s capital.

Sakaja was slammed for apparent inaction amid the disaster.

Speaking at his residence in Karen on Wednesday, April 24 where he was meeting the Nairobi Rivers Commission, Gachagua said his political opponents should stop politicizing the floods in Nairobi.
