FLINT TWP., MI – One firefighter received minor injuries battling a pair of fires just hours apart at Sunridge Apartments in Flint Township.

The first fire was reported around midnight on Thursday, April 25, and was originally reported as an entrapment, according to the Flint Township Fire Department.

Firefighters responding to the scene found heavy fire coming from the third story of a building and entered the third floor of the building before being turned away by heavy fire and heat, the department said.

A cursory search of the area, along with searches of adjoining apartments, showed no one inside the burned-out area. Crews remained at the scene for approximately eight hours.

Crews were called out again to Sunridge Apartments, located at 3348 Flushing Road, shortly after leaving the scene for a fire call at a building next to the initial fire, officials said.

Heavy fire was found throughout the building, taking crews several hours to get under control.

The building would later be deemed a total loss.

The injured firefighter is expected to make a full recovery, officials said. No other injuries were reported.

The Flint Township Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from fire departments in Flushing, Mt. Morris Township, Swartz Creek, Flint, Grand Blanc, Burton, Clio, Mundy Township and Genesee Township.
