The Major League Soccer was born in December 1993after the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will condition the United States to do so after handing over the venue of the 1994 World Cup.
At first, the MLS had just 10 teams, currently there are 29 who are not only from the United States, but also from Canada. True to American custom, the league is divided into conferences, this time two: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference.
The championship is divided into two parts. First the regular season, in which each of the teams plays 34 days. The team that scores the most points wins the MLS Supporters’ Shield. However, the league doesn’t end like that. Subsequently, the seven teams with the most points from each conference qualify for the playoffs.
The first in the conference goes directly to the semifinals, while the remaining six face each other in direct elimination rounds and the three winning teams are the remaining semifinalists.
The winners of the semifinal advance to the final and the two teams that are victorious in their respective conference face each other to win the MLS Cup and thus define the league champion.
The two teams that have won the most times in the MLS are Los Angeles Galaxywith five titles and the D.C. Unitedwith four awards.
While the top scorers from the MLS are: Chris Wondolowskiwith 171 goals; Landon Donovanwith 145 points; Jeff Cunninghamwith 134 notes; Jaime Moreno, with 133; and Kei Kamarawith 130.
Meanwhile, the players with the most matches disputed in the MLS are: Nick Rimandowith 514; Kyle Beckermanwith 498; Jeff Larentowiczwith 437; Kevin Hartman, with 416; and Chris Wondolowskiwith 413.
