Firefighter Injured, Family Displaced After Large House Fire In California

CALIFORNIA, Md. – On May 4, 2024, at approximately 6:47 pm, fire and rescue personnel responded to a structure on fire in the 21800 block of Magnolia Drive.

Upon arrival, crews found a two-story home with fire engulfing the attached garage. Firefighters immediately began efforts to control the blaze, but within minutes, evacuation tones sounded. Unfortunately, one firefighter sustained injuries and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

The fire was extinguished within an hour.

The aftermath of the fire has left a family of two adults and three children displaced. The Red Cross has been notified and will be providing assistance to the family.

SMECO was notified and responded to the scene to ensure the power was secured.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The Maryland State Fire Marshal has been requested to investigate the incident.
