The Murder of Sherlock Holmes: mini-ANALYSIS

Elemental dear Rovians

Escape rooms are proposals that fit like a glove in virtual reality with dozens of objects to interact with and use to solve puzzles. The Murder of Sherlock Holmes aims precisely that: play with everything we see in the house of the character created by Arthur Conan Doyle. And the truth is that the premise sounds interesting but it soon becomes little more than a demonstration of what could have been feeling like it was a product that was too small from the first contact.

Beyond a low poly aesthetic that is sometimes too coarse, making some objects unintelligible due to shapes, a Dubbing to Spanish (special mention to this) not very professional and simply decent image quality, there is an intention to offer something interesting… but it is quickly dismantled. Interaction with objects is imprecise and when we pick one up it adapts to a specific position in our hand, accidentally throwing others away and generating a little involuntary chaos around us.

The clues are null and many times the puzzle resolution is disjointed in addition to filling the puzzle with endless books (with a couple of pages of text) and objects with no function. He tries it in a more inspired way with the violin puzzle, the fake keys… and little else. Unfortunately the only stay available if we are smart is not It will take us more than half an hour to complete.. And although we still have the odd trophy to get that promotes the interaction of certain objects in the room, it is too sparse in content.

As a first approach to the technology by those responsible, it helps us to verify the difficulties faced by a small team but also see that with few resources and good ideas you can do solvent things. There is reprojection, fair resolution and use of PSVR2 functions anecdotal but they are details that can be resolved with future updates, which is nothing more than caviar to perfect the products. Before you have to work on a more solid proposallimit the price to what is offered (already regulated and equal on all platforms) and make the user happy with the experience.

It was time for the witch Lola to have her moment of glory.

We have seen things like The Room VR, The 7th Guest VR in even Wanderer (with a remake in a few months) that do everything possible to provide variety and take full advantage of VR. It is because of that The Murder of Sherlock Holmeswith some more case and even with its lack of budget behind it, it could reach many more people because it never hurts to have more purist escape rooms, and even less so, with such an important character behind it. That without forgetting improve interactivity and add free movement instead of just teleportation.
