Congressman Alejandro Muñante (Popular Renewal) was going to participate in a conference at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). However, a group of students from said university prevented the event from taking place due to the presence of the legislator.

The parliamentarian was among the panelists at the event titled ‘The influence of globalism on the conception of human rights’, which was scheduled for 3:30 pm yesterday, June 5.

The students carried out a protest both inside and outside the room that included pushing and haranguing against the parliamentarian and his entourage.

“San Marcos belongs to the people and not to the corrupt,” could be heard among the screams of the university students.

In response to the protest, through a video shared on his social networks, Congressman Muñante lamented the intolerance of university students.

“We have seen that a display of quite hostile, quite aggressive intolerance that does not allow and does not give sufficient guarantees to be able to develop this presentation of ideas (…) in a university where diversity of thought is supposed to be respected because we live in a Rule of law”, he stated.

He added that to protect the integrity of those who were going to participate in the event and in order to avoid provocations, it was decided to postpone the conference.
