Gary Medel returned to Boca: “It is a giant club and I want to show my level”

Chilean footballer Gary Medel, known for his tenacity and versatility on the field, confirmed his return to Boca Juniors after fourteen years. In his official presentation, Medel expressed his enthusiasm for returning to a club that he considers “giant” and highlighted the influence of Juan Román Riquelme, former teammate and current president of the club, in his decision.

«I was seduced by the club, a giant club, and by Argentine football, which is very competitive. “I want to continue competing at a high level and show that I can do it,” said Medel.

The player, who can play both as a central midfielder and as a central defender, stressed the importance of his bond with Riquelme: “It was something very simple, he loved me and I loved him too, both parties had the same desire, the same enthusiasm.”

Medel arrives at Boca with the determination to contribute his experience and hierarchy, ensuring that he will give himself 100% to the club. «I am very happy and very convinced with what I want to do here in Boca. I am going to give myself 100 percent to the club as I did in all the clubs. At this moment and at this stage of my career I want to enjoy, as Román said. “I want to give all my experience and hierarchy, I have to demonstrate that on and off the court and I hope to do it that way.”

The Chilean, who has already passed the medical examination and signed his contract, returns to the club where he left an indelible mark among the fans for his two goals in the Superclásico of the 2010 Clausura tournament against River Plate, ensuring the 2-0 victory.

In his career, Medel has played for renowned clubs such as Vasco Da Gama of Brazil, Sevilla of Spain, Inter Milan and Bologna in Italy, and Besiktas of Turkey. In addition, he had an outstanding career with the Chilean National Team, participating in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and winning the Copa América in 2015 and 2016.
