The idea of creating a special day to celebrate fathers arose in 1910, in the United States, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to pay tribute to her father, who was in charge of raising her and her five siblings.
The woman proposed that ‘Father’s Day’ be celebrated on June 5, the date of her father’s birthday. Years later, in 1924, the first official statement was given by President Calvin Coolidge that supported the idea of establishing a national Father’s Day. However, it was not until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson established the third Sunday in June as ‘Father’s Day’.
As with Mother’s Day, this day is used by many people to send different types of gifts, cards or celebrate it with a family gathering.
Likewise, this day is used by several families to spend a special moment away from home and take an excursion or walk outside the city.
