New Leon journalist Arnulfo Vigil dies at 67

The Nuevo León poet, journalist, editor and cultural promoter, Arnulfo Vigil, died at the age of 67.

The news shook the local cultural community, since Vigil was considered a leader of the union remembered for his work as a writer and in the magazine and publishing house Oficio.

Among the first to confirm the death of Arnulfo Vigil was the Federación Libertad de Un Pueblo AC, which gave its condolences on social networks.

“I read it and I didn’t believe it at first, I refused to accept that this dear friend, who without any preamble considered me a brother, had gone ahead on the path.

Arnulfo Vigil, Journalist, Poet, Editor, Social Fighter, will no longer be physically with us, but he will always live in our thoughts, remembering his words, his advice and, above all, his words of encouragement. Rest in peace, fly high and save me a place there with you,” the writer and UANL professor Antonio Sánchez Ramírez wrote on his Facebook account.

Other friends, colleagues and members of the cultural community also published emotional messages on networks in memory of Arnulfo Antolín Vigil Jiménez, the poet’s full name.

Vigil was originally from Montemorelos. He was born on September 2, 1956 and studied high school at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Monterrey.

Later, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at the Institute of Higher Studies of the West and at the Regiomontana University, where he was also a professor.

Within the media, he served as a reporter, correspondent, editor, editorial director and founder of Oficio Magazine.

He entered politics as a candidate for mayor of Monterrey in 2003, championed by the PRD.

Among his most remembered works are Gloria Trevi and Other Heavens, Orange Archangels, The Blues of Miss Cauliflower, the Return of the Vermilion Angel, the Band of the Lay Cherubs, among others.

Funeral services will be held this Friday starting at 10:00 a.m. in the Capillas del Carmen.

On Saturday, in the same chapels, a mass will be held for the body present, and then leave for the Garden Pantheon.
