US President Joe Biden leads former President Trump by two points in a national presidential election poll released by Fox News on Wednesday, taking the lead for the first time since last October.

A slim majority, 50 percent, of those surveyed said they would vote for Biden in November, while 48 percent said they would back Trump. It’s a three-point improvement for Biden from last month’s Fox News poll, where Trump led by one point.

Wednesday’s poll marks the first time Biden has achieved 50 percent support this election cycle, and it is also the first time he has surpassed Trump in a Fox poll since October 2023.

When third-party candidates are included in the poll, Biden leads Trump by one point, 43-42. Independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West received 10 percent and 2 percent support, respectively, while Green candidate Jill Stein garnered two percent support. In the May poll, Trump led by three points.

Poll could show impact of Trump’s felony conviction earlier this month, Since then, polls in all areas have shown that Biden is closer to the former president and, in some points, surpasses him.

Among one of the most critical demographics in the race, independent voters, Biden leads Trump by nine points. That’s an 11-point change from May, when they favored Trump by two points.

“The underlying demographic trends that have defined the race remain in place,” mentioned Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducted the survey. “Biden has improved slightly among women and older people, keeping him afloat despite significant declines since 2020 in support among younger and African American voters.”

Citizens surveyed were also more positive about the economy than in previous months. Nearly a third, 32 percent, of respondents said they had excellent or good sentiment about the economy, the highest rating of Biden’s presidency.

Nonetheless, a majority of 56 percent of respondents still had a negative outlook on the economy.

Overall, Biden has 45 percent job approval, according to the poll.

The Fox News poll polled about 1,100 registered voters nationwide, with a margin of error of about 3 percent.
