Former president of the United States and Republican candidate Donald Trump promised that, if he returned to the White House, he would grant automatic permanent residency (green card) to those immigrants who graduate from university, a significant change in their immigration position, it was reported on Friday (06/21/2024).

“What I want to do and what I will do is that if you graduate from a university I think you should automatically obtain, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to remain in this country,” the Republican said during the podcast “All-In “.

He added, without offering further details, that “that includes community colleges as well, anyone who graduates from a university. You go there for two or four years.”

Trump, who during his administration had a tough policy on immigration and is a critic of President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, also promised to address this issue from day one if he is re-elected.

The former president (2017-2021) has historically blamed undocumented immigrants as criminals and rapists and for the loss of jobs and the depletion of government resources.

Furthermore, in his eventual new term he has promised the largest deportation operation in the history of the United States.
