Moscow, June 26 (EFE).- The Russian gas giant Gazprom today signed a memorandum with Iran to supply it with Russian gas.

“A strategic memorandum has been signed to study preparations for the supply of Russian gas to Iran,” the company said on its Telegram channel.

According to Gazprom, the memorandum was signed between the Russian consortium and the Iranian National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) within the framework of the visit to the Islamic republic of a delegation led by its president, Alexei Miller, who met with the prime minister in functions of Iran, Mohammad Mojber.

This memorandum, Moscow and Tehran highlighted, opens the doors to “long-term mutually beneficial cooperation.”

In addition, Miller met with Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji, with whom he discussed the necessary steps to implement the recently signed memorandum and other aspects of energy cooperation between both countries.

This is the second visit this year by the directors of the Russian gas giant to Iran, where Gazprom has a representative office.

Both countries have strengthened ties in recent years, especially after the start of the war in Ukraine, in which Tehran helps Moscow with the supply of Shahed drones, while Russia supports Iran in breaking its isolation with its entry into international organizations and such as the BRICS or the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

With the start of Russian gas supplies to Iran, Russia would acquire a new market after the implementation of Western sanctions due to the war in Ukraine that force it to look for alternatives to European customers.EFE
