A Demonstration by the Mapuche Painemil community at the Loma La Lata field stopped gas production in Neuquén, generating a crisis that could affect the supply to Buenos Aires and other regions of the country. The protest, which It has been going on for more than 24 hours, it was caused by the demand for bottled gas for a home in the community.

Since early morning, more than 3 million cubic meters of gas (MMm³/d) have been out of stock, affecting all operators in the area. Sources reported that production began to be impacted when some 280 YPF workers and contracting companies were “retained” at the Los Barreales minewithout being able to change shifts.

The protest, which began on Tuesday after 10 in the morning, prevented industry employees from leaving the offices and the site to return to their families. The transport that was waiting for them had to leave without the workers, who were finally able to leave the facilities at 3:20 in the morning this Wednesday.

Vaca Muerta broke two new historical production records in May

Although the area was left with a minimum guard, operations are not operating at full capacity, resulting in a significant reduction in gas production. Several plants in the largest conventional gas field in Neuquén are currently paralyzed.

The claim of the Painemil community focuses on the assistance with bottled gas supply for about 40 homes in the area. Usually, it is companies that provide this service to the community, but the lack of an adequate response has led to this drastic measure.
