The Government’s VAT Refund Program announced the deadlines for the delivery of extraordinary payments corresponding to cycles 4, 5 and 6 of 2023, intended for beneficiary households that have not yet claimed these resources.

Starting June 28, payments will be issued and will be available until July 19, which seeks to provide the last opportunity for beneficiaries to claim their transfers. Households will be notified of the availability of funds via text messages sent by the payment operator SuperGIROS and its allied network.

To find out if they are beneficiaries, citizens will be able to verify from June 26 by entering the program’s website: https://devolucioniva.prosperidadsocial.gov.co. They can also consult directly at the mayor’s office of their municipality or at the Regional Directorates of Social Prosperity.

The payment amounts vary between 90,000 pesos, in case of having a single pending cycle, and up to 270,000 pesos for those who accumulate three cycles. In total, Social Prosperity allocated more than 135,000 million pesos for this stage of the program.

It should be noted that the VAT Refund aims to alleviate the impact of sales tax (VAT) on the most vulnerable families in the country. On this occasion, those households that did not claim the previous cycles of 2023 and that did not fall into causes of ineligibility or withdrawal will benefit, according to the recent anti-fraud process carried out by the entity.

The program does not require registration, since the selection of beneficiaries is carried out based on the information provided by Sisbén IV and the Social Registry of Households. Therefore, it is crucial that families keep their information updated where they live.

According to the DPS, in addition to providing immediate economic relief, the VAT Refund contributes to reducing inequality and improving social equity. By ensuring that resources reach those who need them most, the program helps close income gaps and encourage a fairer distribution of wealth.

From an economic perspective, these subsidies can stimulate consumption and boost the local economy. Beneficiary families tend to spend the resources received within their communities, which boosts local commerce and generates a positive multiplier effect.

In terms of social well-being, the VAT Refund seeks to strengthen inclusion and social cohesion. By providing financial support, the program reduces the feeling of abandonment and exclusion among the poorest sectors of society, improving their quality of life and future prospects.

Finally, by requiring beneficiaries to keep their records in Sisbén and the Social Household Registry updated, the program encourages the use of information systems and promotes a culture of formality and transparency.

With the aim of promoting equity and ensuring that benefits reach those who really need them, the entity established in 2022 a series of causes of ineligibility for households, which could be adjusted in the cycles corresponding to 2024. These causes include:

  • Indications of the death of the person who owns the home.
  • Identity document not valid due to death.
  • Report to the program by the municipal administration.
  • Inconsistencies in the document of the holder.
  • Duplication of household records in the Program information system or in the Targeting bases, that is, when the owner or members of the household are registered in more than one household within the Program Information System.
  • Concurrence with other social programs whose regulations indicate that you cannot be a beneficiary of “VAT Refund”.
