Disney Plus has already merged with Star Plus: These are all the changes

The expected day has arrived! The Disney Plus streaming platform has already absorbed the entire catalog of its counterpart Star Plus. Starting this June 26, users of this service will be able to enjoy the Disney world, ESPN sports and Star Plus adult Hollywood productions in a unified way.

This change establishes this platform as one of the most robust options on the market, bringing together a much more varied content offering than its competitors. Here we tell you all the details.

For new users Disney Plus offers three membership plans:

  • Disney+ Premium: All content from Disney Plus, Star and ESPN, with Dolby Atmos audio quality and UHD/HDR video. It allows streaming on up to four devices simultaneously and downloads of up to 25 titles on 10 devices. Includes live broadcasts from all ESPN linear channels. It is priced at $16.99 per month and $141.99 per year,
  • Disney+ Standard: All content from Disney Plus and Star and sports from ESPN, with 1080 px video quality and Stereo 5.1 audio. It allows streaming on two devices simultaneously and downloads of up to 25 content on 10 devices. It is priced at $12.59 per month and $104.99 per year.

Those who already had a subscription to Disney Plus, Star Plus or Combo Plus will enjoy the Premium plan without a price increase for a limited time. Starting July 24, 2024, Star Plus will no longer be available as a standalone platform. To continue enjoying the content, it will be necessary to download the Disney Plus app.

Disney Plus was launched first in North America, in 2019, and on November 17, 2020 it was enabled for the Latin American market. However, in our region there was a difference with respect to the catalog offered in Canada and Europe: Disney Plus did not include the content of Star, the brand under which the corporation groups its series and films for adults, produced by the studios. Fox, the FX channel, the ABC network or original material from the Hulu streaming service (also owned by Disney and not available in Latin America).

Seeking to diversify its portfolio, Disney chose to turn Star Plus into an autonomous streaming platform, combining Star content with ESPN sports. Thus, Star Plus debuted in the Latin market on August 31, 2021 and exclusive subscription plans were created for that service or that could be purchased in combination with Disney Plus.

However, in the end, the entertainment giant stopped fighting its streaming competitors from both fronts and opted for the option that many of its users were waiting for: unifying everything under the same umbrella, which finally happened on December 26. June.
