The decision made by the Government on electricity and gas rates for July

To avoid an impact on the inflation, the Government decided to postpone increases in electricity and gas rates again in July. According to him, the intention is to contemplate seasonality, linked to a higher consumption due to winter.

The decision, in principle, would only be for next month, with the aim of sustain the recovery of purchasing power. Rates were, according to different economists, one of the factors that could cause a rebound in inflation in the coming months.

The Government freezes electricity and gas rates for July

According to reports, The measure is for household consumption and will be reflected in the August bill.

“If a consumer in June spent exactly the same amount of consumption as in July, your bill will have the same amount to pay“explained sources from the Secretary of Energy. If consumption decreases, logically, you will pay less.

At the beginning of June, the Government had modified the maximum subsidized consumption caps and bonuses on wholesale prices of electricity and natural gas for low- and middle-income users.

The Government postponed the increase planned for July in electricity and gas rates

This measure marks the beginning of a process to “for moving from a generalized subsidy regime to a targeted onein which the user can know the cost per kW of electrical energy and m3 of natural gas, which is identical for everyone.”

Likewise, it will be possible to determine the assistance that the State provides to users “according to their ability to pay and that reaches up to a limited consumption limit through the recognition of a lower payment (bonus).”

There will also be no increases in July for gas rates: the user will pay the same as they paid in June, always in relation to consumption.

What will the new energy subsidies be like?

In a movement based on the need to reduce the public spending and redirect resources, the Government announced a major restructuring of energy subsidies.

The measure, which seeks to focus state support on the most vulnerable sectors, implies the total elimination of subsidies for high-income households and a gradual reduction for middle- and low-income households.

To determine the level of subsidy corresponding to each household, a level segmentation system has been implemented, classifying users into three categories: Level 1 (without subsidy), Level 2 (partial subsidy) and Level 3 (major subsidy).

To access subsidies and maintain their category, users must register in the Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE).

In order to ensure a transparent and controlled process, the authorities have established a “transition period” in which the data of users registered in the RASE, Data will be cross-referenced to ensure correct categorization and the evolution of the relevant economic variables will be monitored.
