Jorge Enrique Abello and Ana María Orozco appeared in the video, actors who gave life to Armando Mendoza and Beatriz Pinzón on screen, respectively.

Trailer for “Ugly Betty” 2024

The second part of “Ugly Betty” is considered a new stage in the particular history that the soap opera has with streaming. As you remember, Netflix was first the network that broadcast it for a long time in Latin America. But in July 2022 the relationship ended without the reasons being known.

Prime Video announced in November of that same year that it had acquired the broadcast rights to the Colombian soap opera. It was here that rumors arose as to whether or not this agreement included new projects linked to the so-called ‘Betty-verse’.

The continuation of this story makes a time jump to “Ecomoda”, a fiction that spread on RCN Televisión immediately after the first broadcast of “Betty, la fea” ended, at the beginning of the new millennium, but which in reality did not have any major resonance. neither in criticism nor in audience.

As you remember, “Ugly Betty” told the story of Beatriz Pinzón Solano, a highly qualified economist who, because she did not conform to the prototypes of ‘beauty’ of her time, could not get the job she deserved. To overcome this obstacle, the daughter of Don Hermes and Doña Julia applied as secretary to Ecomoda, a fashion company that was beginning a transition, and in which the new president, Armando Mendoza – an inveterate gigolo, although engaged to Marcela Valencia – would end up succumbing to their ‘damned goals’ (Mario Calderón/Ricardo Vélez dixit).

What is “Ugly Betty” 2024 about?

In the midst of the free fall of Ecomoda’s finances, Armando and Betty live a work relationship that, with the rapid passage of time and the pressure of circumstances, becomes a sentimental bond, first out of convenience (from him to her). and finally through genuine love. The love story was also supported by humorous secondary characters such as Freddy (Julio César Herrera), but also by the always useful villains (Daniel Valencia/Luis Mesa).

Of course, over the last two decades, many other versions of the soap opera originally devised by Fernando Gaitán have been made, from the Mexican “La fea más bella” (El Canal de las Estrellas) with Angélica Vale as the protagonist, to the American “Ugly Betty” (ABC) with América Ferrara as the main star, until – somewhat more recently – “Betty in New York” (Telemundo/Netflix) with Elyfer Torres in the leading role. This latest version, without Gaitán ‘supervising’ things, had a ‘cameo’ by Abello in the opening chapter.

The announcement of the continuation of “Ugly Betty” on Prime Video brought with it a high dose of intrigue and rumors. From the names that the cast would include to the topics it could cover. As for the first, except for Daniel Valencia (Luis Mesa), most of the main faces were confirmed by the network and producers. From Freddy to Don Hermes, passing through Aura María, Marcela Valencia, Hugo Lombardi and Patricia Fernández herself.

Little is really known about the second. It was reported that in this sequel Betty and Armando would have a daughter (Mila), played by Juanita Molina. It has also emerged that, on this occasion, Armando and Betty will try to move the company they run forward, although for now there is no certainty that Ecomoda is the same thing that fans of the original soap opera know: a company that makes clothes.

In a recent appearance at Paris Fashion Week, Lorna Cépeda (Patricia Fernández) spoke about the possible approach that the new Prime Video series could have, taking into account that the current concerns, care and forms are somewhat different from those from the beginning of two thousand.

“I feel that even though the world has changed a lot, we still have a lot left. Bullying still exists, racism still exists, a number of things that are still terrifying. It’s okay for someone to show it […] to generate a little more awareness,” says the interpreter in statements collected by AFP.

What does Lorna Cepeda think of Patricia Fernández’s memes?
