In case you need to “review” what happened in the last episode of season 1, here we leave you the summary and review of the dragon house 1×10 “The Black Queen”. The events left us on the brink of conflict but far from rushing, the series appears contained and requires patience from viewers to see how the tragedy is forged over a slow fire.

Summary the dragon house 2×01

“A Son for a Son” begins by taking us north, where Jacaerys Velaryon has gone to seek the favor of Torrhen Stark. He tells her of the honor of serving the North even above family. Protect the wall from death, not just from the weather and the savages. Even dragons refuse to cross it. He offers northerners to wage war against the Hightowers.

The Greens, meanwhile, receive news of Rock Dragon. Daemon wants revenge: a son for another son, for death of Lucerys. The Velaryon ships are attempting to maintain a blockade of the waters that the dragons keep guarding from the air. The idea is to suffocate King’s Landing until resources run low in retaliation for Aegon’s coronation.

Alicent Hightower and Criston Cole are now lovers and the queen is not particularly proud of it. She has sent Rhaenyra repeated letters since Lucerys’ death which she does not answer, as she continues to mourn her.

Aemond, despite not having a seat on the council, shows up to help in the preparations for the showdown. Later Larys tells Alicent that she has found the traitors and that she has personally chosen the new service. Paranoia spreads and security is redoubled because they sense danger.

One of the dragon’s wings appears on Dragonstone beach Arraxwhich breaks the heart of Rhaneyra. She mourns once again the death of his son.

Aegon, crowned with the nickname “the magnanimous”, has to attend to the people’s pleas, but he is too impulsive and rushes too quickly in his judgments. He has complaints from the ranchers, the islanders and the blacksmiths, who have had to pay many tributes to finance the impending war. Otto Hightower It corrects their misdeeds, but also reveals their lack of judgment.

Larys Strong He asks to see Aegon alone and proposes to change Hands since Otto Hightower was his father’s Hand. For now, he keeps the idea to himself without making a decision.

Alicent and Otto argue in private: she fears that her children will stop listening to her and she wants her father to stop overruling her in the council. The only way to victory is confrontation, they agree on that, even if it is despite it.

Rhaenyra presides over the council: the idea is to maintain the blockade of King’s Landing. He says that he loves Aemond Targaryen.

Daemon asks White Worm for advice on infiltrating the Red Keep. She facilitates the contact of people who could do it. But she does it behind Rhaenyra’s back.

Meanwhile, she officiates a funeral in which she burns her son’s remains. In a parallel montage we see Alicent lighting a candle for Alyerie Florent, Viserys Targaryen and Lucerys Velaryon.

Daemon contacts the Hightower’s detractors so that they can take one life for another and kill Aemond Targaryen by infiltrating Maegor’s tunnels.

Otto goes to see Aemond to tell him that as the rider of Vhagar he is the greatest force in the kingdom but that he must keep his impulses at bay to obtain the revenge he deserves without rushing. He has no faith in being able to contain his brother.

The thugs sent by Daemon pass by the king without being discovered: They tell the servants that they are looking for rats.

They find Aegon’s wife, Helaena, who is taking care of the children while they sleep and decide to kill one of her children but they do not distinguish which one is the male, future heir to the throne. So they ask her which one he is. Unhinged, she targets one of them, which makes them distrustful and think that he is the other. They finally believe her and kill him by beheading him while she flees with the girl.

A starter that lowers the tone

It is strange that in this fictional universe, that of Game of Thronesafter all because the dragon house It is still a prequel, so there is restraint when it comes to showing anything. We have seen murders, torture, dismemberments… But, against all odds, this time the series is not as visceral as usual.

It is not that this diminishes our anxiety as spectators: the sound comes to hint at what the imagination has to complete without difficulty, but the change of register is still curious.

For the rest, the series stops to take the pulse of the characters, gauge the impact of Lucerys’ death on them and finish drawing their mental state.

Alicent lets herself be loved by Criston Cole almost knowing that it is “now or never” while the Blacks writhe in their pain and cry out for revenge. However, it is not yet time for total conflict, but for dirty war and in that Daemon is a specialist.

But as viewers, we are not so naive as not to realize that this way of taking our foot off the accelerator is not also due to how expensive it is to show dragons on screen.

The production values remain admirably high: we visit places we had only seen in the parent series and we open our sights a lot. Everything seems very real… even the winged beasts, even though they appear rarely.

the dragon house It is a very choral series, with many locations, which has involved extensive filming in a multitude of amazing natural locations.

The interiors, the most controllable film sets, have also been significantly expanded in this second batch of episodes and there is a gigantic effort to illuminate using natural light and candles that gives it a unique appearance.

Now: we all wanted more dragons. They will arrive, in due time, but what the viewer will notice when landing back in the series is that it needs to relocate (maybe even review the end of the previous season) and that after the escalation of violence it stops: We are entering a period in which dialogues, stratagems and betrayals replace frontal confrontation..

With all these points, we can assure that as the start of the season, the second season is better than the first. As we have also been privileged to have already been able to see the first four episodes of the series, We can categorically affirm that it is getting better, so that the patience of the spectators will be rewarded.
