According to the Netflix synopsis, the story takes place in a New York neighborhood in the 1980s. Along with a police officer and a desperate father trying to find his missing nine-year-old son while fighting his own demons.

The series begins when Edgar – Vincent’s son – disappears on the way to school. From that moment on, Vincent enters a self-destructive spiral, in which there was no room for anyone, not his wife, his mother or his friends. His only moral support is Eric, a blue monster inspired by a drawing by little Edgar, in whom he seeks comfort.
