The soap opera ”Yo soy Betty, la fea’ has established itself as one of the most emblematic in the history of television. Since its premiere, the production became a global phenomenon, broadcast in more than 180 countries and generating dozens of international adaptations. This indisputable success even led it to be recognized in 2010 by the Guinness Book of Records as the most successful soap opera of all time.
Since June 18, Colombians can enjoy the repetition of the soap opera on Canal RCN at 9:30, after the cooking reality show ‘Master Chef Celebrity’. This would be the fifth repetition of Betty on RCN, with the first in 2008 and the last in 2020, during the covid-19 pandemic, when it managed to be the most watched program in Colombia for a few days, according to ‘El Colombiano’.
Among the actors who are still active is Martha Isabel Bolaños, known as ‘La pupuchurra’, who recently participated in the reality show ‘La casa de los celebrities’, and was one of the participants who generated the most controversy.
In an interview with ‘El Colombiano’, Bolaños spoke about the relaunch of the telenovela and mentioned that he does receive compensation for each repetition of ‘Yo soy Betty, la fea’. Although he clarified that this remuneration is not significant, he stated: “Yes, you receive something for repetition, but it is not much, it is a small remuneration for each time it is repeated.”
It is important to highlight that the remuneration received by the actress, along with the rest of the cast, is due to the Fanny Mickey law. This regulation regulated payment for broadcasts, stipulating that channels are obliged to provide a percentage of their advertising income.
When is ‘Ugly Betty: The Story Continues’ released?
The new Prime Video series, the third to be made about Betty, was written by Antioqueño César Augusto Betancur, known as ‘Pucheros’, responsible for the success of ‘Rigo’ and creator of ‘Las Hermanitas Calle’ and ‘La Selección’ .
This comedy-drama will feature the star couple of the original series, Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello, as well as the original cast: Julián Arango, Natalia Ramírez, Lorna Cepeda, Luces Velásquez, Marcela Posada, Mario Duarte, Julio César Herrera, Ricardo Vélez, Alberto León Jaramillo and Estefanía Gómez. Joining the cast are Rodrigo Candamil, Juanita Molina (who will play Betty and Armando’s daughter), Zharick León and Sebastián Osorio.
On this occasion the story resumes the life of Beatriz Pinzón Solano, known as Ugly Betty, two decades after the end of the original series. The now empowered Betty is still married to Armando Mendoza, who leads the family business. Meanwhile, Betty works to rebuild her relationship with her teenage daughter, Mila, and faces the crisis at her company, questioning whether decisions made 20 years ago really made her happy.
Amazon confirmed that the series will be available on July 19, 2024 on its platform.
