“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (…) of Bolivia expresses solidarity with the families of the victims and missing people in the sister Federative Republic of Brazil, following the intense rains that caused the breakage of a dam in the region of Rio Grande do Sul. ”states a statement.

The text ratifies the support “to the brother Brazilian people and their president Lula Da Silva in the care work to recover from this unfortunate natural disaster.”

The number of deaths from the floods that have hit southern Brazil increased to 57, according to the most recent report released by the authorities of that country this Saturday.

The figure has grown continuously in the last four days, and reflects the severity of the tragedy caused by the climate crisis.

Rio Grande do Sul, a state bordering Argentina and Uruguay, is the most affected with 56 deaths, while another death was recorded in the neighboring state of Santa Catarina.

Added to this unfortunate figure are 67 missing people and tens of thousands of victims, of which 8,296 are in public shelters and 24,666 in the homes of family and friends in Rio Grande do Sul.

More than eight thousand people, some perched on the roofs of their houses, had to be rescued by helicopters or boats in what is described by authorities as the worst natural disaster in the history of the region.
