Through a message on his profile on the social network X, the president called on those he appointed to these positions not to forget that this rescue must be built with actions and transparency.

“The central government will work hand in hand with each of you, all departments matter so that Guatemala can move forward,” the head of state remarked.

Arévalo accompanied the text with a photo with the 20 named so far, in a selection process that he promoted starting last February.

On March 25, the 65-year-old politician ordered the dismissal of 17 departmental officials throughout the country.

Within the framework of the definition of the new proposals, social organizations and the indigenous population criticized questionable actions in some communities.

They urged the president to demand shortlists with suitable citizens and not to negotiate with coup deputies and local governments.

Analysts and commissions demanded that the president “investigate the signs of will-buying during the shortlist selection process and prioritize the rescue of civil society spaces.”

These positions in Guatemala, designed to execute the public works budget, are not of popular election, but of appointment and free removal by the Executive.

During the last three governments, according to various analyses, some of the chosen officials were later accused of corruption.

Arévalo, who assumed the presidential chair on January 14 of this year until 2028, is focused on combating this scourge head-on and making the promise of a new spring a reality.
