Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, regretted the damage and victims caused by the serious weather situation in the state of Río Grande do Sul, in Brazil.

With his message, Díaz-Canel showed his closeness with his Brazilian counterpart, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, and assured that he remains focused on what is happening in the South American country.

Through the same social network, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, sent his solidarity to the Brazilian people and government.

According to local media, at least 54 people died and more than 60 are missing due to flooding in recent days after heavy rains that hit the region.

According to an official report, the displacement and isolation of people left 8,296 people in shelters, more than 24,500 people homeless, and some 281 municipalities affected.

Paulo Pimenta, Secretary of Social Communication of the Presidency of Brazil, stated that the state is going through its greatest meteorological catastrophe.
