Hanoi, June 8. — The Foreign Ministers of Venezuela, Yván Gil Pinto, and Vietnam, Bui Thanh Son, met this Saturday and highlighted the excellent political and diplomatic relationship between both countries. After 35 years of diplomatic relations, Gil Pinto highlighted the high level of ties between both countries during his meeting with Thanh Son, which he considered a step towards greater rapprochement, reported Prensa Latina.

Gil Pinto expressed his gratitude for Vietnam’s firm defense of Venezuela’s interests and its fight against unilateral coercive measures, as well as for the warm welcome on his first visit to Hanoi, a city he described as heroic and a model for humanity.

Thanh Son, on the other hand, expressed his confidence that the visit of the head of Venezuelan diplomacy will contribute significantly to the development of the comprehensive relationship between both countries and reaffirmed Vietnam’s desire to further strengthen the traditional ties of friendship with the Bolivarian Republic. .

Referring to today’s meeting, Thanh Son anticipated that they would discuss the current situation of both countries and measures to increase cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, agriculture and research, with the aim of increasing mutual trust and making the relationship is more effective and lasting.

The Vietnamese Foreign Minister also mentioned the visit to Caracas last April of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, who reaffirmed that Vietnam always considers Venezuela one of its traditional friends and important partners in Latin America.

Thanh Son also praised the socioeconomic achievements of the Venezuelan government and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro, they will continue to achieve greater success in building an increasingly developed country.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister arrived in the capital yesterday and began his official agenda this morning by paying tribute to the leader of Vietnamese independence, President Ho Chi Minh, at the mausoleum where his remains rest.

In the afternoon, Gil Pinto will meet with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, thus concluding his first visit to this Indochina nation.

Vietnam and Venezuela established diplomatic relations in December 1989, but it was not until a decade later, with the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez to the presidency, when these ties began to strengthen and deepen.

Hanoi opened its embassy in Caracas in December 2005, a gesture that was reciprocated by the Venezuelan government in January 2006. That same year, Chávez made a state visit to Vietnam.
