Among the signatories, leaders of the left stand out, such as the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, the head of the list of that force in the recent European elections, Raphaël Glucksmann, and the national secretary of the environmentalists, Marine Tondelier; the current minister delegate Agnès Pannier-Runacher and the former minister Clément Beaune.

The proposal seeks to get the Popular Front, which brings together the left-wing parties, the ruling party and the Republican right, to commit to voting in the runoff against RN.

Sunday will be the first round of the legislative elections, and a week later the second, which could be decisive in many constituencies.

The promoters of the lawsuit published in the newspaper Le Monde recognize the differences between the various political camps, but ask that no one be confused, because the extreme right remains what it always was.

“She is an enemy of democracy and a propagator of hatred (…) and if she comes to power, she will demonstrate her inability to lead the country,” they warned.

Boosted by its large victory in the European elections on June 9 and by the polls, RN aspires to an absolute majority in the National Assembly to come to power by appointing a prime minister from its ranks, the president of the party, Jordan Bardella. .

In the polls, the far-right organization accounts for a third of voting intentions, followed by the Popular Front (27-29 percent) and the ruling party bloc and its allies (20).

The intention of the signatories is that the agreement against RN for the runoff materializes now, before the first round on Sunday, in which almost 50 million French people will be called to return to the polls.

President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the Assembly on June 9 and called early legislative elections in reaction to the triumph of the extreme right in the European elections.
