Twenty days after the plane crash in Guaviare, the fate of 13-year-old Lesly Mucutuy, 9-year-old Soleiny Mucutuy, 4-year-old Tien Noriel Ronoque Mucutuy, and 11-month-old Cristin Neriman Ranoque Mucutuy is still uncertain. All of Colombia and part of the world closely follow the fate of the little ones lost in the thickness of the Colombian jungle.

Magdalena Mucutuy, the mother of the children, was found dead, as well as the indigenous leader Herman Mendoza Hernández and the pilot Hernando Murcia Morales. Damarys Mucutuy Valencia, aunt of the four minors and Magdalena’s sister, believes that the oldest girl’s survival skills keep them alive.

“I really think the older girl is the one leading them. I grew up with her. We played, we put together cambuches over there in the woods and well, she’s used to it. I feel that they are alive because she is strong. She knows how to be in the bush. I feel that she is the one who is taking care of the little brothers,” said Mucutuy, according to Radio Caracol.

In addition, Damarys stated that she feels calm because she is certain that minors identify very well the plants and fruits of the forest that can harm them.

The case

On May 16, the authorities confirmed that they had found the remains of the Cessna 206 plane, registration HK 2803, attached to the company Avialine Charter, in the village of Palma Rosa, a rural area of the municipality of Solano, in Caquetá, where the four minors were traveling. , his mother, the crew and one other person. The traces left by the little ones encouraged the authorities.

From the Unified Command Post, where the search for the four indigenous minors who are missing after the accident is coordinated, it was announced, according to RCN, that indigenous people from different communities will join the efforts to find them.

Regarding this fact, President Gustavo Petro gave details and indicated that these people will work hand in hand with the military forces, thanks to their knowledge of the area and their experience in search processes.

It is expected that in the next few hours, 20 indigenous people from Puerto Leguízamo and 15 from Caquetá will arrive in the area to begin support work in the jungle.

Giovani Yule, director of the Land Restitution Unit, assured that these communities will also “work spiritually with nature” to expedite and facilitate the search efforts.
