Book that recounts the exploits of the Chilean National Team of 2010 is republished

The second literary work in the catalog of the writer José Antonio Lizana, “Rayando la campo”, Sports Chronicles, turns fifteen years old and its author commemorates it with a new edition.

The common thread of the publication is the campaign of the Chilean National Team, directed in those years by Marcelo Bielsa, where the author exhaustively follows each match of the national team in the Qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Let us remember that this process started with the skepticism of the specialists and the doubts of the fans, but after a little while it was consolidated until it achieved the desired qualification for a World Cup, after twelve years.

“Rayando la campo” came into the hands of the Rosario strategist in January 2011, who graciously incorporated it into his reading. Then, he asked his Chilean advisor Diego Reyes – who worked on Bielsa’s staff from 2007 to the present day – to contact the author, to thank him and give him a report on the text. This shows that Marcelo Bielsa does not leave anything in the air, not even reading a book by a new writer.

Likewise, Lizana is one of the few communicators who has provided space for all disciplines. His topics address the unknown and unpopular, such as the lack of resources and infrastructure that athletes such as swimmer Kristel Köbrich, gymnast Tomás González and the National Bowling Team had to deal with.

In a decade and a half, his contribution to the sports culture of our country is undeniable, through an analytical, reflective and critical perspective.

Furthermore, in the 2024 edition, the reader will find new and current chronicles such as that of the Tomás Lawrence club in San Fernando, which complement the text that was awarded in 2009 by the Circle of Sports Journalists of Chile.

“Rayando la campo”, Sports Chronicles, took a turn back fifteen years, to put some urgent and necessary sports issues back on the table. Today in the realm of social media, avid readers of good sports literature are needed more than ever.
