The consequences of the economic crisis hit all spectrums of consumption and tobacco does not escape reality. For the third time so far in 2024, an increase was recorded in the Lucky Strike, Rothmans, Camel and Winston brands.

Lucky Strike, a key alternative for smokers’ spending, brought the prices of the 20-unit box to $2,530, while the KS20 version reached $2,220 and the pack of 12 cigarettes closed at $1,500. In turn, convertible options will cost $2,570, $2,220 and $1,530 in their alternative Box 20, KS and Box 12, respectively. The Lucky Strike Paris, formerly Parisiennes, went to $3,100.

Rothmans, another widely accepted brand for those seeking to reduce the impact on their pocket, raised its prices between $1,650 and $1,770 for packages of 20 units. The Rothmans XL Red and Purple Box 20 option is now set at $2,220. On the other hand, the presentation of Red Box 12 will cost $1,060.

Camel Box 20 and Blue Box 20 were $2,850, while the smaller products are available for $1,690.

Winston, in its only 20-pack, went to $2,530.

It should be noted that there are places where—despite the determined values—they highlight prices.

Change of habits

The constant that is repeated among merchants is that tobacco consumption has not suffered a representative impact, rather what occurs in some cases is a change in habits. That is, customers do not stop smoking even in the face of sharp increases.

It does happen that there are people who opt for cheaper brands, for packages with fewer units or even for other possibilities such as loose cigarettes and rolling tobacco (to a lesser extent).

The truth is that, regardless of the criteria regarding consumption, the increases hit smokers hard.
