Aragón will present its highest distinctions to Princess Leonor after her time at the Zaragoza Military Academy

The main Aragonese institutions will present their highest distinctions to Princess Leonor after her time this year at the General Military Academy (AGM) of Zaragoza. A gesture to thank you for the sensitivity you have shown towards the Community during your stay and value what his figure represents for Aragon and all of Spain, while supporting the parliamentary monarchy.

The heir will receive the Community Medala concession that the regional Executive approved this Wednesday in government council. This recognition comes in addition to the appointment of Adoptive Daughter of Zaragoza by the City Council. And it is planned that tomorrow, Friday, the Board and Board of Spokespersons of the regional Parliament will meet on an extraordinary basis to agree on the awarding of the institution’s Medal to Leonor. Besides, The City Council has already decided that the Auditorium of the Aragonese capital will bear his name.

On the occasion of the delivery of these decorations, the future queen will experience a day of institutional recognition before complete his military training on July 3 with the graduation of second lieutenant. The Royal Family and the teams of the different Aragonese administrations involved are working so that this celebration can take place this month of May, probably on the 21st, Tuesday.

The agenda is intended to include a visit full of symbolism to the Seo del Salvador. For centuries it was the center of the religious and political life of the Crown of Aragon and the Aragonese Kings were proclaimed there since the 13th century, after the privilege granted by Pope Innocent III to the Aragonese monarch in 1205.

An intense day

The Princess of Asturias will collect the Medal of Aragon like her father, Felipe VI, who received it, once he finished his military studies, on June 23, 1989 at the DGA headquarters from the then president of the Community, Hipólito Gómez de las Roces. A date that was remembered yesterday by the second vice president and spokesperson for the DGA, Mar Vaquero, when she announced the news of her concession.

The difference will be made by the fact that everything indicates that his first-born daughter will receive the Aragón medal on the same day, that of the Cortes and the title of Adoptive Daughter of Zaragoza. The then Prince of Asturias pinned the first decoration of the regional Parliament on his chest on May 10, 1986, at his same age and coinciding with his first year of military training at the AGM, within the framework of the old Aljafería palace that It was under construction to become the headquarters of the institution. Shortly after, on the 16th, he was named Adoptive Son of the Aragonese capital.

Vaquero highlighted that in recent months in Zaragoza, the future queen “has shown to win the affection of the Aragonese people” and has also shown, “a special sensitivity to this land, a special reciprocated affection and a special attachment.”

He recalled that during the official reception of the Monarch to the Aragonese president, Jorge Azcón, on September 20, the head of the autonomous Executive conveyed to him the “commitment and loyalty” of the Community with the Constitution and the system of parliamentary monarchy. Likewise, he also expressed his desire to award the Medal of Aragon to the Princess of Asturias, an offer that was accepted by Felipe VI.

The Minister of Economy and Employment also emphasized that granting the distinction of the Community to Princess Leonor also means recognizing the role of Aragon, throughout history and now, “especially in turbulent times,” to “reinforce” the system of parliamentary monarchy and democracy.

The municipal government of Zaragoza has stressed on several occasions that the objective of her appointment as Adoptive Daughter is ““to record the city’s affection” for the future queen. The purpose of this distinction, included in the Regulations of Protocol, Ceremonial, Honors and Distinctions, is to recognize people who have stood out for their merits or qualities, especially in the cultural, scientific, social, artistic, political or economic fields. , or for services provided for the benefit of the city.
